FUNK FAVELA explores the multiplicity and contradictions of the funk movement, focusing on the São Paulo scene. Blending interviews and observational footage, the documentary discusses prejudice against funk, the participation of women, and the musical and social roots of a genre that was born and still finds its greatest creative power in the peripheries of large cities. From Bega's dance hall to the Book Biennial, passing through music festivals and small production companies where an army of young people tries to become the next sensation of the genre, the film features characters such as photographer Fernanda Souza, DJs Mu540 and Th4ys, musicians MC Bin Laden, MC Tha and Irmãs de Pau, and dancer Renata Prado, among others.

Format: 1 x 71'.

Produced by Grifa Filmes and Pimiento Medias Inc. (Canada).

Directed by Kênya Zanatta.

Screening: ABCCOM Institute and festivals (In Edit Brasil, Kinoarte Film Festival, FESTin).
