Grifa Filmes was founded in 1996 by brothers Fernando and Mauricio Dias. Its focus is on producing high quality projects to the Brazilian and the international market. The company specializes in large projects and international series. It has titles distributed in the most important television channels such as Discovery, National Geographic, Fox, NHK, Arte, France 3, France 5, CBC, Record, TV Brazil, Multishow and GNT.
Grifa Filmes has won numerous international festivals with their productions, and was nominated for two International Emmy Awards.
In addition to documentary movies projects, Grifa produces weekly TV programs, series, advertisement and institutional films, Art Books and all kind of special audiovisual projects.
In its first year Grifa Filmes produced two series: “Three Plateaus and a Balloon”, composed of three films in which the audience travels over Brazil’s three plateaus – Diamantina, Veadeiros and Guimarães – by hot air balloon, and “Urban Maps”, about the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, followed by the natural-history documentary “Whales in Abrolhos” for Animal Planet.
In the year 2000 Grifa’s visual History-Adventure film “On the trail of Langsdorff Expedition” won the International Discovery Pitching and was distributed by Discovery International and France 3 to more than 100 countries ; the Wildlife-Series “Animals of Brazil” produced for National Geographic was the NGC’s most watched film during the first week premiere and was among the top 10 cable channels in Brazil; and the Emmy-nominated documentary “Doctors of Joy” which put Discovery Health among the TOP 10 cable channels in Brazil ; the feature-length documentary “500 Souls” is one of the most awarded Brazilian documentary in Brazil ; the documentary “Tracking Giant Sloth” was distributed to more than 50 countries and is being exhibited in important channels such as Discovery US, NHK (Japan), RAI (Italy), CBC (Canada), ARTE (France/Germany) ; The docudrama “Born to Sing” produced in 201o for TV Record as a Christmas’s Special made them reach high audience scores ; The award-winning documentary “WHO CARES?”, exhibited in Harvard, Theaters in Brazil, Rio+20, ETHOS Conference and which is supported by UNESCO; the “EXTINCTIONS” series, a successful French-Canadian-Brazilian co-production whose film The Jaguar was directed by Mauricio Dias and is being broadcasted by the renowned channels France 5 and TV5 (France), HighFidelity (Canada), YLE (Finland), RTBF (Belgium), TSR (Sweden), RTV (Slovenia), Aniaml Planet (Latin America), TV Brasil and TV Cultura; The documentary “Unknown Amazon”, the true story of the Amazon Rainforest which was specially exhibited at RIO+20 and is being broadcast by TV Brasil; the Tv program “OUT OF CONTROL“, an exciting cop show about the world of police investigations in Rio de Janeiro is getting huge audiences for TV Record; and recently our newest documentary series “Saved From Extinction“, a 6×52-minute episode based on the successful co-production with the French FL Concepts, being broadcasted by France 5 and TV Brasil.
